Unfair Cigarette Taxation in U.S.A.

Apparently, our government has forgotten the "Boston Tea Party". Recently, tax on cigarettes has raised total price in the local area by more than $1.00, with another raise in tax coming next month. Because of rising costs, I had switched to a "store brand", at almost half price of regular brands, a couple years ago, and until now, they were around $2.30 per pack, today I paid $3.30!! Thats a one dollar raise in tax on a two dollar item!!!!How can it be a fair tax? If all things were taxed at this rate..there would be a public uprising. You might say, well people shouldn't smoke anyway. ........................I might say, well lets tax liquor,candy,soda,sweets,and other things that might not be so good for you at the same rate? Would that be a fair tax? It is not the government's role to tax an item out of existence. Its hard enough these days, with rising food costs and declining economy to keep a jump ahead. I think our lawmakers need to step out into the real world at least once a week. Must be all that hot air floating around in closed chambers.
